Nutanix provides an invisible cloud infrastructure, meaning it is not present on premises. But the company extends that invisibility by making the entire infrastructure lifecycle invisible, so users don’t have to worry about maintenance, upgrades, obsolescence and the financial burden associated with them. The new strategic partnership between Commvault and Nutanix will safeguard said invisible infrastructure with innovative data protection solutions.
As a global enterprise data protection and information management solutions provider, Commvault will offer its IntelliSnap snapshot management platform to protect and recover data and virtual machines that will be running on Nutanix and supporting the Acropolis Hypervisor solution.
The collaboration between the two companies is the latest venture designed to give organizations the ability to leverage the flexibility for delivering service level agreements (SLA) to recover and easily access data from the Commvault Data Platform when deploying infrastructures in a virtualized environment while increasing predictability, scalability and efficiency.
According to Commvault, it will be the only data protection software platform that provides hardware snapshot integration and agentless protection for the Nutanix Acropolis hypervisor, VMware vSphere and Microsoft (News - Alert) Hyper-V on Nutanix. Customers will be able to optimize their cost by leveraging the most suitable hypervisor for their needs, yet still lower their risk and effort when deploying high-performance and scalable solutions.
“Building on our industry-leading work with virtualized environments and snapshots, Commvault is uniquely positioned to bring enhanced data protection and recovery to hyperconverged customers using Nutanix Acropolis,” said Brian Allison, VP of Worldwide Alliances, Commvault.
Nutanix Acropolis incorporates an open platform for virtualization and application mobility to offer organizations the flexibility to choose the application platform technology that best suits them with traditional hypervisors, emerging hypervisors or containers. This means infrastructures can be selected based on the performance of the applications that have been chosen as well as scalability and financial considerations. And if workload requirements increase, it can easily scale without being penalized as in traditional deployments.
Acropolis is composed of the Distributed Storage Fabric for web-scale services across multiple storage protocols; App Mobility Fabric to deliver virtual machine (VM) placement, VM migration, and VM conversion with high availability and disaster recovery; and Acropolis Hypervisor, a native hypervisor based on the proven Linux KVM hypervisor.
“Commvault has been an early and strong supporter of the Acropolis hypervisor since its launch. IT organizations need holistic data protection and management for their critical enterprise applications. We see Commvault as an ideal partner to provide these important capabilities,” said,” said Venugopal Pai, Vice President of Strategic Alliances and Business Development, Nutanix.
Select customers can now get basic support for Nutanix Acropolis, followed by more advanced IntelliSnap technology integration available later in the quarter.
