AT&T-SBC Merger a Solid Value Proposition
BOSTON, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Retailers Association of Massachusetts today endorsed the merger of AT&T and SBC Communications, calling the deal a solid value proposition.
"Large and small retailers, which comprise our membership, are just like other customers," said Jon B. Hurst, president of the Retailers Association of Massachusetts. "We're becoming more demanding about value. We want new. We want better. And we want now.
"The combined AT&T and SBC company would be better positioned to deliver on such a value proposition," Hurst noted. "Together they will be stronger, more responsive to customers and more innovative in delivering new technologies that retailers need to gain a competitive edge and deliver the personalized service our customers want."
In a recent white paper RAM posted on its website, personalization was noted as an important trend in future retailing success. "Advances in communications technology allow us to create a more specialized buying experience for customers," Hurst said. "With the right technology, such as the next-generation Internet-based services the combined AT&T-SBC company will deliver, small independent retailers can create a more personalized experience for shoppers and gain a competitive edge."
Hurst also noted that both companies have histories of providing high levels of reliability and best-in-class services. "More than 95 percent of retailers have only one store and some 98 percent have fewer than 100 employees," Hurst observed. "Our members would benefit greatly from the synergies of an AT&T-SBC merger, which would better enable the combined companies to deliver big-business solutions to small- and mid-sized businesses."
