TH-UNIS Applies Linux Operating Platform to New Products

(SinoCast Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)BEIJING, May 02, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) --Tsinghua Unisplendour Corporation Ltd. (TH-UNIS), a computer maker in China, has installed the legal version of operating platforms in the newly-launched notebook and personal computers before shipment, revealed TH-UNIS's general manager for computer division.

He said that the company would not only apply Microsoft Corporation's Windows operating system and thus take Linux as an alternative, as TH-UNIS looks to both price and market performance of the operating system as the determining factors.

The specific proportion of products with Windows and Linux is hard to fix at present, according to the general manager.

Senior officials from TH-UNIS and Microsoft are now in talks with regard to the price and amount of TH-UNIS's procurement. Apparently, Linux will be the first choice for the company due to its competitiveness in price.
