Cablevision's Optimum Online(R) Surpasses Two Million Customers

BETHPAGE, N.Y., Dec. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cablevision Systems Corp. today announced that its award-winning high-speed Internet service, Optimum Online, recently surpassed the 2 million-customer milestone. The nation's fastest broadly-deployed Internet services for the home -- now increasingly chosen by small businesses as well -- Optimum Online continues to lead the nation in market acceptance, providing service to 44 percent of the homes passed by Cablevision's fiber-rich network.

"Optimum Online was one of the nation's first broadband services, and in many ways it created a template for a successful high-speed Internet product -- delivering fast and reliable Internet connections that let our customers do more online, as the medium itself developed and became an increasingly central and important tool in people's lives," said Tom Rutledge, Cablevision's chief operating officer. "We want to thank our customers for allowing us to surpass this key milestone, and for continuing to recognize the speed, reliability and clear value proposition of Optimum Online."

2006 marked an important year for Optimum Online, as Cablevision completed a significant value-added speed increase that raised the speed of its core Optimum Online service, from up to 10 megabits-per-second (Mbps) downstream and 1 Mbps upstream, to new speeds of up to 15 Mbps downstream and 2 Mbps upstream, at no additional charge.

The company also deployed its first premium tier high-speed Internet product, Optimum Online Boost, which offers customers downstream speeds of up to 30 Mbps, 5 Mbps upstream, in addition to a number of advanced Internet tools and features that make this premium service a perfect choice for both high-use residential and business customers. Optimum Online Boost is available for an additional $14.95 per month, or $9.95 per month for residential customers who also subscribe to Optimum Voice.

Cablevision also offers a special order high-speed Internet service, Optimum Online Ultra, which offers symmetrical 50 Mbps Internet connections (50 Mbps downstream and 50 Mbps upstream) for less than $200 per month.

"In Cablevision's market, the word Optimum represents the best -- the best value, the best performance, the best service available from any provider," Rutledge continued. "Optimum Online passes this test every day. It has also been an enormously important product for our company, because we were able to leverage the market credibility we achieved through Optimum Online in the introduction of Optimum Voice, our digital voice-over-cable product, which has become the most successful and most highly-penetrated VoIP service in the nation."
