Tenex discussing long-term uranium contracts with Japanese power firms

(Interfax News Agency Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) AOMORI, JAPAN. April 10 (Interfax) - Russian nuclear materials exporter Techsnabexport (Tenex) is discussing contracts to supply low- enriched uranium to Japanese power companies in the period to 2017, Vladimir Smirnov, the general director of Tenex, told reporters.

Smirnov said the possibility of creating guaranteed reserve stocks of Russian nuclear materials in Japan was also being discussed.

"We're proposing to set a low-enriched uranium storage facility up in Japan for secure deliveries," Smirnov said. Tenex already has guaranteed reserve stocks in the United States and Europe, he said.

"This is fully consistent with an initiative by the Japanese government to create these stocks," he said. pr
