Dwayne Curtis and Jennifer Rushing Win Cellular South Fans' Choice Award(Market Wire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) TUPELO, MS, March 31 / MARKET WIRE/ -- WHO: Dwayne Curtis and Jennifer Rushing WHAT: With more than 175,000 total votes cast, Ole Miss center Dwayne Curtis took home the Cellular South Fans' Choice Award for the top men's player in Mississippi, while Delta State point guard Jennifer Rushing was named the fans' top women's player during tonight's Cellular South Outstanding Player Awards presentation at the BancorpSouth Conference Center in Tupelo, Miss. For the men, Ole Miss' Dwayne Curtis took the top spot, receiving more than 38,000 votes to beat out Mississippi State's Charles Rhodes (14,780 votes) and his Bulldog teammate Jamont Gordon (6,050 votes) as the fans' choice for Mississippi's best men's college basketball player. On the women's side, Delta State University's Jennifer Rushing ran away with the Cellular South Fans' Choice Award with more than 105,000 votes, besting Ole Miss forward Shawn Goff (17,223 votes) and Southern Mississippi standout Pauline Love (1,208 votes) as the fans' choice for Mississippi's best women's college basketball player. In honor of Curtis' and Rushing's victories, Cellular South will donate $2,500 to both Ole Miss' and Delta State's athletic departments. While Dwayne Curtis and Jennifer Rushing were the fans' choice, Jamont Gordon took home the prestigious Cellular South Howell Trophy, awarded by a media panel to Mississippi's top men's basketball player, and Jennifer Rushing swept both awards when she won the first-ever Cellular South Gillom Trophy, given to the top women's player in Mississippi.
