BRIEF: Deloitte cuts salaries: Deloitte Brightman Almagor Zohar managing partner Ilan Birnfeld: We want to maintain the quality of our customer...

(Globes Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dec. 1--Sources inform "Globes" that Deloitte Brightman Almagor Zohar has cut salaries across the board by 5-10 percent. The cut was made on the basis of assessments that the crisis will not end any time soon, and will indeed worsen. Speakers at a company conference yesterday made comments to this effect.

Deloitte Brightman Almagor Zohar managing partner Ilan Birnfeld confirmed the report. He said that the firm's work plan was formulated between November 2007 and January 2008, before the present crisis. He said that the firm hired 80 new employees on November 2, as part of this work plan.

Birnfeld cautioned, however, "Our customers' needs and the professional tasks have not only not diminished, they've increased, and the size of the auditing and consultancy contracts are only increasing, even as we must adjust our needs to our cost structure. We want to maintain the quality of our customer services on one hand, and the job security of our employees on the other. That's why we decided on the pay cut."

Low-earning employees will earn 5 percent less, and high-earners will make 10 percent less.
