EIGHT INT'L INSTITUTIONS TO MONITOR ELECTIONS IN ACEH


Banda Aceh, Apr 07, 2009 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- Eight international institutions are to monitor the April 9, 2009 legislative elections in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province, a local election official said.

Nurjani Abdullah, chairman of the observers working group (Pokja) at the NAD Independent Election Commission (KIP), said here on Tuesday the eight international institutions had been accredited by the General Elections Commission (KPU) to monitor the polls in Aceh.



He identified the eight international institutions as The Carter Center, the European Union (EU), International Republican Institute (IRI), Australian Embassy, International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES), Embassy of the United States, Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) Foundation, and National Democracy Institute (NDI).

In addition, seven national institutions had also been permitted by KPU to monitor the elections in Aceh province.


They are the Independent Committee for Election Monitoring (KIPP), Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI), the Institute of Research, Education and Information on Social and Economic Affairs (LP3ES), Garda Santri Nusantara Election Monitoring, Public Issues Network (JIP), and the Election Monitoring Committee of the Indonesian Muslim Students Association Alumni Corps (KPP KAHMI).

Six local institutions in Aceh would also monitor the elections, namely the Aceh Non-governmental Organizations Forum, Community of Aceh Resources Development (e-CARD), Pidie Jaya National Youth Committee, Titian Keadilan Organization, Aceh Security Group, and Youth Students Executive Board Family Association (IKABEMA).
