Compton will be responsible for cultivating new business and managing relationships with clients and prospects. He previously spent 12 years with Jefferson Wells, where he served as the lead business development executive in the Maryland/ D.C. area. He began his career with a Big Four accounting firm in business advisory and assurance services before moving to T. Rowe Price for six years. Architecture Ayers Saint Gross, of Baltimore, recently promoted three staff members to associate principal: Karla Aghajanian is a planner and project manager with expertise in land use and development, and historic preservation. Her work has won awards from the American Society of Landscape Architects and the American Planning Association. Dennis Lynch recently has focused on LEED-certified academic buildings and student housing at several universities. Jamie Barnett leads the graphic design studio, guiding the development of two- and three-dimensional graphic solutions for institutional, cultural and commercial clients. Craig Williams, of Salisbury-based Becker Morgan Group, recently received the American Society of Architectural Illustrators AIP26- Koichi Yasuda Juror Award for his 3D illustration titled "Red." In addition, his illustration titled "Hopper Remix" received the ASAI AIP25-Robert Greenstreet Juror Award and is being featured on the national American Institute of Architects website. Murphy & Dittenhafer Architects recently received the inaugural Voussoirs Award from Alpha Rho Chi Architectural Fraternity at its national convention. The award recognizes the most exemplary collaborative building project. The firm, which has offices in Baltimore, and York, Pa., was honored for its work on the CODO 241 mixed-use redevelopment project in downtown York. Awards Volunteers of America Chesapeake has been named to CIO magazine's 2011 CIO 100 list. The awards program recognizes 100 organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology and utilization of IT to create business value. Linda Hudson, a nurse with the Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care System, recently received the VA Secretary's Award for Excellence in Nursing Care at a national level. Hudson served as acting women's health coordinator from December 2009 to September 2010, and played a key role in the development and expansion of the Women's Health Program at eight sites within the VA Maryland Health Care System. She earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Maryland School of Nursing, then joined the Nursing Service at the VA Maryland Health Care System. Receiving the award at the local level were VA Maryland Health Care System nurses Karen Cervino, NP, Ida Harvey, LPN, and nursing assistant Stephanie Tharp. Vanessa Frazier has been named Volunteer of the Year at the Baltimore VA Medical Center, a division of the Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care System. Frazier, a veteran who volunteers with the Consumer Relations Service and staffs the information desk in the medical center lobby, has accrued more than 2,250 hours of service time. The Maryland Economic Development Association recently announced the recipients of its 2011 MEDA Awards: the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission received the Economic Development Program Award; the Delmarva Discovery Center won the Economic Redevelopment Project Award; the Annapolis Towne Center at Parole received the Judges' Redevelopment Award; the Greater Washington Initiative received the Economic Development Marketing Award; the 50th Anniversary Economic Impact Program Award was presented to the University of Maryland's Maryland Industrial Partnerships; Columbia, Md., received the 50th Anniversary Economic Impact Development Award; Baltimore's Inner Harbor won the 50th Anniversary Economic Impact Redevelopment Award. Bank of Glen Burnie President and CEO Michael G. Livingston received the MEDA Volunteer of the Year Award; Robert (Bob) C. Brennan, executive director of the Maryland Economic Development Corp., was inducted into the MEDA Hall of Fame; and the MEDA Life Member Award was presented to Richard (Dick) W. Story, senior vice president for marketing at JPB Enterprises. NextLogical Benefit Strategies, of Westminster, recently received a 2010 Top 5 Producer Status award from CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. The award recognizes the employee health benefits company for its growth in brokering CareFirst's medical plans throughout Maryland, Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia. NextLogical Benefit Strategies is a nationwide employee benefits brokerage and consulting firm. Anne Towne, retiring executive director of the Association of Community Services, was honored during the organization's annual Audrey Robbins Humanitarian Awards luncheon June 15. The association is a network of nonprofit, for-profit, faith-based and government agencies and citizen advocates founded in 1963 to develop, support, and promote the Howard County human services community with education and training, advocacy, and community connections. The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development received two honors at the "Best in Maryland" Awards ceremony June 14. DHCD's foreclosure prevention marketing campaign, "Mortgage Late? Don't Wait," was awarded the top award, Best in Maryland, in the Unsung Hero category. Also, Communications Director Jacqui Lampell received the Lifetime Achievement Award. David Gilmore Wright, principal architect at GWWO Inc., of Baltimore, has received the 22nd Annual Ewell L. Newman Award from the American Historical Print Collectors Society. The award honors an outstanding recent publication that focus on aspects of American historical prints at least 100 years old. Wright's two-volume book, "Domestic and Wild: Peter Moran's Images of America," published in October 2010 by Creo Press, of Baltimore, documents the life and art of painter-etcher Peter Moran. Wright has dedicated his career to preserving and reinvigorating historic buildings of national significance. Profiles Inc., a Baltimore-based public relations, marketing and special events firm, earned three awards at the 50th annual Best in Maryland awards ceremony hosted by the Maryland chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. Profiles received the highest honor, two Best in Maryland Awards, for its work on behalf of the Gregg Bernstein for Baltimore City State's Attorney campaign and the American Craft Council Show in Baltimore, while also being awarded an Award of Excellence for the planning and execution of RA Sushi Bar Restaurant's Maki Madness event. Bonnie Heneson Communications, a marketing communications agency, also won a Best in Maryland Award of Excellence from the Maryland chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. The award was in the Integrated Marketing Communications category for "A Holiday Tradition Made New: BHC ushers Symphony of Lights to a record- breaking season." Bernie Dancel recently was presented the 2011 Jim Greenfield Award for Compassionate Leadership by The Arc of Howard County at a tribute to him and his wife, Connie. The Dancels, personally and through Ascend One Corp., the business Bernie Dancel founded, have provided financial support for The Arc of Howard County through personal and corporate gifts to the capital campaign, endowment fund, annual campaign and frequent sponsorships. Ascend One Corp. and the Dancels support dozens of other local and regional nonprofit organizations. They have made leadership gifts to the Howard County Y, Howard County General Hospital and Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center, and established funds at The Columbia Foundation. The Y of Central Maryland recently honored two Anne Arundel County Community Advisory Board members: Jim Chambers received the Instrumental in Supporting Positive Change for a Stronger Y Future Award. He is a managing partner of Conundrum Capital Partners, and a partner in the Vision Ace Hardware chain. Chambers spent 20 years in management positions at Conoco, Corning, and Quest Diagnostics. He is on the board of trustees at Dickinson College and is treasurer of the board of trustees of Western Reserve Academy. Robert Kavetsky received the Geraldine Young Distinguished Service to Youth Award. Kavetsky is president and executive director of the Energetics Technology Center. He previously was director of the National Defense Education Program at DDR&E. Boards Martine Prevost-Charles recently was elected to the board of directors of the Job Opportunities Task Force, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to develop and advocate policies and programs to increase the skills, job opportunities, and incomes of low-skill, low-income workers and job seekers. Prevost-Charles is a business development associate with Gross, Mendelsohn & Associates, a CPA and consulting firm in Baltimore. James H. Johnson Jr. has been appointed to the board of directors of Severn Savings Bank, of Annapolis. Johnson is professor emeritus of civil engineering and former dean of the College of Engineering, Architecture and Computer Sciences at Howard University. He is a member of the National Research Council's Division of Earth and Life Studies oversight committee, chair of the U.S. EPA National Advisory Council for Environmental Policy and Technology, chair of the Anne Arundel Community College board of trustees and president of the Maryland Association of Community Colleges. He was the 2005 recipient of the National Society of Black Engineers' Lifetime Achievement Award in Academia. The Fort Meade Alliance, of Hanover, has re-elected seven directors and added five new directors to its board. Education Andrea Burgoyne has been promoted from concert manager to operations manager at Children's Chorus of Maryland & School of Music, of Towson. Burgoyne, who is a professional performing musician, has served in nonprofit management and board positions throughout the Greater Baltimore region for over 25 years. Children's Chorus of Maryland is celebrating its 35th anniversary as a provider of training for children in choral music literacy. Sundai M. Riggins has been named principal of Monarch Academy Baltimore Campus, a public charter school sponsored by The Children's Guild to serve students citywide. The coeducational school will open this fall. Riggins previously was assistant principal at Brightwood Education Campus in the District of Columbia Public School System. She has served as English Department chair at Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg as program director and summer camp director of the Community Preservation and Development Corp., in Washington, D.C. Riggins received the High School Principals Association Teacher of the Year Award in 2007. She has a master's degree in education administration from Trinity University in Washington, D.C., and a B.A. from the University of Maryland. Health Care Dr. Kelly L. Geoghan has joined the Cosmetic Surgery Center of Maryland. She is an expert in cosmetic podiatry, using surgical and non-surgical procedures. Dr. Geoghan has more than 14 years of experience in podiatric surgery and medicine, with advanced training in cosmetic podiatric procedures. She is board-certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. Dr. Geoghan served as chief resident at St. Agnes Medical Center in Baltimore. Marketing Dana Dorsheimer has been hired as a junior associate by Warschawski, of Baltimore. Dorsheimer previously was an assistant account executive at TBC Inc, an advertising agency in Baltimore, after participating in Warschawski's Assistant Associate program. Public Relations Eleni Polites of the Baltimore office of Weber Shandwick recently was named New Professional of the Year by the Public Relations Society of America's Maryland chapter. Polites joined Weber Shandwick in 2010 as an account executive and was recently promoted to senior account executive. She works as a digital project manager responsible for managing website production. Weber Shandwick also won an Award of Excellence and a Best in Maryland award for two campaigns in the specialty category. Publications Ashlee Ibex has been promoted to operations manager of The Maryland Daily Record. Ibex was hired in 2006 as advertising coordinator, then promoted to classified advisor, operations coordinator, advertising/operations coordinator and publishing assistant. As operations manager she will oversee the production department, printing operation, distribution and delivery of printed products, and events. Ibex, who has a bachelor's degree in mass communication with a concentration in advertising from Towson University, previously worked as a program assistant at the Association for International and Practical Training. Kathy Sciumca recently was named sales manager by The Maryland Daily Record. She previously was an account executive with Chesapeake Publishing's Avenue News, a part of American Consolidated Media. Sciumca was a sales or accounts manager or account executive with the Pennysaver Group for 22 years, an account executive with Baltimore Trolley Works, and major accounts manager with the Baltimore News American newspaper. She is a graduate of Central Michigan University. Real Estate Robert A. Manekin has joined Colliers International in the Baltimore region as managing director and principal. Manekin specializes in corporate services, tenant representation for law firms and consulting. He previously was a senior vice president of Manekin LLC. He also held senior executive positions at The Studley Organization and The Staubach Co. Manekin is a faculty associate at the Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University, a board member for the Greater Baltimore Committee, Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, and The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Greater Baltimore. He is president of Jewish Recovery Houses and a past president of Baltimore's Jewish Community Center and Baltimore's Building Owners and Managers Association. Manekin earned his Juris Doctor at the University of Maryland School of Law. Crystal Frey has been named vice president of human resources by Continental Realty Corp., of Baltimore. Frey had worked for Marcor Environmental for over 20 years, including the past 16 as head of its human resources department. She has a bachelor's degree from Salisbury University and an MBA from the University of Baltimore. Frey holds a Senior Professional in Human Resources designation from the Society for Human Resource Management and is a Certified Compensation Professional. Scully to lead bankers group Mary Ann Scully, chairman, president and CEO of Howard Bank, headquartered in Ellicott City, has been elected chairman of the Maryland Bankers Association for 2011-2012. She has also served as chairman of the Government Relations Council and Maryland BankPAC. Scully was one of the founding officers of Howard Bank and headed its organizing committee before the bank opened in 2004. She previously had worked at Allfirst, formerly First National Bank of Maryland and now M&T, where she rose to executive vice president of regional banking/community banking. Scully is also chair of the Columbia Foundation's board of trustees and serves on the board of trustees of Howard County General Hospital.
