BRIEF: Detroit Fire Department chief injured in accident


Oct 13, 2011 (Detroit Free Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Detroit Fire spokesman Chief Kwaku Atara said that Detroit Fire Chief 8 was injured in the accident, but did not release his name.

Atara said the chief was on his way to a second-alarm fire on Van Dyke, near McNichols when is SUV crashed.

Detroit police said the accident occurred at about 9 a.m. when the chief's SUV, which was running lights and sirens, crashed with a minivan. Police said the van was being driven by a 23-year-old woman, whose 1-year-old daughter was also in the vehicle. According to police, both were in stable condition.



The chief sustained minor injuries, but was also in stable condition, police said.
