Wind power generation from Jiuquan base hits 6.26 bln kwh by end-Oct.

BEIJING, Nov 02, 2011 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Total electricity output from China's major wind power base in Jiuquan city of northwest China's Gansu Province has amounted to 6.26 billion kilowatt hours (kwh) as of October 31 since operation, according to Cao Yinli, director of the power dispatching and communication department of Gansu Electric Power Corp.

As China's first wind power base that tops an installed capacity of 10 million kilowatts, it is estimated that electricity output from the base will feed 7.5 percent of the total power demand in Gansu by the end of 2011.

Wind power is about to become the second largest power source next to thermal power in Gansu, Cao noted.

It is noted that the installed capacity of grid-connected wind power has reached 4.45 kilowatts by the end of October in Gansu, which has generated some 5.96 billion kwh of electricity during the January-October period, up 273 percent year on year.
