BRIEF: Manatee County cell phone tower site burglarized

MANATEE, Aug 22, 2012 (The Bradenton Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Deputies are seeking a suspect or suspects who cut wires and caused extensive damage Wednesday morning at a Manatee County cell phone tower site.

Deputies responded at 7:42 a.m. after a burglary at a cell phone tower site at 8210 Linger Lodge Road. The tower is used by AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile, according to the sheriff's office.

Access was gained to the property through a small hole cut into a fence. Ground wires to the equipment and buildings were cut, according to the sheriff's office. Wires to the main power breaker outside the fence were cut, causing a power outage, and a generator unit was disabled. Several junction boxes were opened and deputies observed that someone attempted to pry open a door to one of the buildings.

The suspect or suspects left the scene through a larger hole cut in the fence, according to the sheriff's office. Fresh tire prints were found near the scene.

The monetary value of stolen or damaged items was not released.
