Alcatel-Lucent provides Germany's desaNet with advanced data network to enhance safety and efficiency for energy providers and businesses

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 11 October 2012 Release date- 10102012 - Paris - desaNet Telekommunikation Sachsen Ost GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of the energy provider ENSO Energie Sachsen Ost (ENSO), is to offer business customers voice and data services to enhance the safety, efficiency and cost effectiveness of their operations thanks to a new communications network from Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU).

The new communication network uses Alcatel-Lucent's Internet Protocol/Multiprotocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) technology. IP/MPLS enables the super-fast delivery of huge amounts of data in real time. Using the network desaNet will be able to offer businesses new services such as prioritization of signals in case of incidents so they can be fixed before they become an issue. The new network will enable desaNet to support multiple essential services on one communications system to reduce network complexity and costs.

The system will provide support for features such as teleprotection, which ensures faults are isolated from the main supply network to maintain the safety and reliability of a system - in milliseconds - before it can affect customers' machinery and systems. At the same time it will also provide support for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, as well as other voice and data services.

Hans-Dietmar Beyer, Managing Director of desaNet, said: 'Alcatel-Lucent will provide us with a new uniform network for operational and for commercial telecommunications services. This is a modern and seminal approach that meets all our business customers' current and future communications needs - as well as those of energy providers such as ENSO, with the ability to support future 'smart grid' applications.' Patrick Langelaan, Vice President Sales, German Accounts of Alcatel-Lucent, said: 'Alcatel-Lucent's IP/MPLS network paves the way for the future support of Smart Grid applications, delivering even further enhancements for energy companies and their customers. We are delighted to work with desaNet to help them transform the communications abilities of companies in the state of Saxony.' Alcatel-Lucent's technology solution for desaNet Under the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will design, install and commission the IP/MPLS network covering parts of Saxony. Specific products include Alcatel-Lucent's 1830 Photonic Service SwitchCore Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) system, 7705 Service Aggregation Router, 7210 Service Access Switch, 5650 Control Plane Assurance Manager, 5620 Service Aware Manager and the 9500 Microwave Packet Radio. Alcatel-Lucent is also providing its overall project management expertise to ensure a smooth migration and uninterrupted service from the legacy to the new IP technology. In addition Alcatel-Lucent is providing its expertise on cyber security in order to support desaNet's transformation to an all-IP network.
