Air Traffic Control The Netherlands Leverages Active Power Solution [Professional Services Close - Up]

(Professional Services Close - Up Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Active Power, manufacturer of continuous power solutions and critical backup power systems, announced it has deployed one of its PowerHouse systems, a continuous power solution, at the Air Traffic Control (ATC) center at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Schiphol-Oost, The Netherlands.

In a release, the Company said that the PowerHouse system was leased by the customer and deployed in the third quarter of 2012.

PowerHouse supports the emergency power infrastructure currently in place for the airport's ATC operations facility. The system is operating in standby and can instantaneously provide complete continuous power if the facility's emergency power systems fail or are taken offline for routine maintenance.

The deployment consists of a purpose built enclosure that contains all critical power infrastructure equipment including Active Power's high efficiency CleanSource UPS (uninterruptible power supply), standby diesel generator, switchgear, base fuel tank, and controls and monitoring software.

"Space efficiency and speed to deployment were critical to the project," said Roland Gemein, facility engineer, at ATC The Netherlands. "The PowerHouse platform enabled us to quickly deploy 200 kW N+1 of complete power infrastructure outdoors as opposed to dedicating a substantial amount of time to a conventional brick and mortar build which simply wasn't feasible. We're able to utilize PowerHouse as an interim solution as we design and build out a more fixed system to support our emergency equipment. The compact solution was ideal for the challenges we were up against." "Our PowerHouse product line is well suited for this type of application where the customer needs to deploy a complete power solution in a very short period of time," said Martin Olsen, vice president, Global Sales, at Active Power. "This project is a true testament to the system's flexibility and inherent benefits."
