IEEE Standards Association Hosting One-Day 'Internet of Things' Workshop 13 November in Italy


PISCATAWAY, N.J. --(Business Wire)--

The IEEE (News - Alert) Standards Association (IEEE-SA) today announced it is hosting a free, one-day workshop: IEEE-SA Internet of Things (http://standards.ieee.org/events/iot/index.html), in Milan, Italy, on Tuesday, 13 November 2012. The workshop will be held at the Milan Marriott Hotel from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Participants will have a unique opportunity to learn about and explore the evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT).

"It is predicted that 50 to 100 billion things will be electronically connected by 2020. But the success of Internet of Things depends greatly upon standardization, which in turn provides interoperability, compatibility, reliability and effective operations on a global scale," said Mary Lynne Nielsen, director of corporate programs, IEEE-SA. "This Internet of Things workshop will bring together global industry experts to discuss the importance of creating a vibrant IoT ecosystem through consensus-based collaboration."

Presenters will discuss opportunities and applications in fields such as medicine, e-health, augmented reality, wearable computing and smart grid, smart energy and communications evolution. The workshop also will showcase a variety of Internet of Things-related products presented by industry leaders in a complimentary exhibition space.
