Visit by Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs Masagos Zulkifli to the Arab Republic of Egypt, 6 to 9 November 2012


SINGAPORE, Nov 09, 2012 /African Press Organization via COMTEX/ -- Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs Masagos Zulkifli called on President Mohamed Morsi on 8 November 2012 to convey President Tony Tan's invitation for President Morsi to make a State Visit to Singapore at a mutually convenient time. President Morsi accepted the invitation and indicated that he looked forward to visiting Singapore in the near future. They reaffirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with the growing pace and scope of cooperation. President Morsi and SMS Masagos further agreed that both sides would continue to explore and identify new areas of collaboration that would be mutually beneficial to Egypt and Singapore. On the same day, SMS Masagos also called on Minister of Interior Ahmed Gamal El-Din and had a useful exchange of views with him on how both Singapore and Egypt dealt with issues of mutual concern such as homeland security. They agreed to enhance bilateral collaboration in counter-terrorism and information-sharing. SMS Masagos also met with the Deputy Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood Engineer Khairat Al-Shater and they discussed developments in Egypt and the role of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt's political landscape.



In addition, SMS Masagos participated in an interactive dialogue session with about 120 Singaporean students in Cairo where he underscored the importance of racial and religious harmony in Singapore and shared with them the opportunities for asatizah in Singapore.

SMS Masagos will travel to Dubai on 9 November 2012 to meet with Singaporeans in the U.A.E. which hosts the largest overseas Singaporean community in the Middle East.
