BRIEF: Children's charity robbed

PEABODY, Nov 12, 2012 (The Salem News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A charity that helps needy children and families was robbed over the weekend.

The staff at Save the Children at the Northshore Mall told police on Saturday morning that someone broke into their kiosk overnight and took a phone, a laptop computer and an envelope containing about $50 in donations.

Police are investigating.

Save the Children began in England in 1919 to aid children in war-ravaged Europe. It was established in the United States in 1932 to help children in Appalachia during the Great Depression.

Currently, the charity is raising funds for victims of Hurricane Sandy.
