BRIEF: Verizon unveils HTC smartphone with a 5-inch, 1080p HD screenNov 13, 2012 (Los Angeles Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Verizon and HTC are bringing 1080p HD to the palm of your hands with the new Droid DNA smartphone. The New Jersey-based mobile carrier says the new device is the first 5-inch smartphone to feature a full 1080p HD display in the U.S. Verizon announced the Droid DNA at an event Tuesday. It is now available for pre-order online for $299 on a new two-year contract. It can also be purchased for $600 without contract. The Droid DNA's display has a 1,920-by-1,080-pixel resolution and has a 440-pixels-per-inch density. By comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Note II has a larger 5.5-inch display but lower 1,280-by-720-pixel resolution with 267 PPI. The Droid DNA uses a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The phone has 16 GB of storage. The new HTC smartphone also comes with a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera and an 8-megapixel rear camera. Both record in 1080p HD. Verizon says the Droid DNA can get up to 12 hours of usage time on its battery. Additionally, the phone comes with Beats audio. On its website, Verizon says pre-orders for the Droid DNA will ship by Nov. 19.
