OPSWAT Launches Free Security Score Tool

San Francisco, CA, Nov 14, 2012 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- OPSWAT today announced the beta release of a new free tool for evaluating the security status of individual computers. The tool, OPSWAT Security Score, detects the installed security applications on a machine and evaluates the status of those applications. Users are given a simple score summarizing the security of their computer across multiple categories including antivirus, antiphishing, firewall and others.

OPSWAT Security Score, available free for download from OPSWAT's website, is powered by OPSWAT's OESIS Framework. OESIS is a development toolkit that enables the detection, assessment and remediation of third-party applications installed on a device. Leading vendors including Juniper, Cisco, Citrix, F5 and many others use OESIS to power endpoint compliance checking capabilities in their SSL VPN and NAC solutions. Security Score makes use of the capabilities of OESIS to report on the status of installed security applications.

"The Security Score tool offers a great way for end users to get a quick snapshot of the security status of their machine across multiple products," commented Anish Patankar, Director of Product Management at OPSWAT. "One security application is often not enough to protect a machine on every front, so Security Score helps provide a global view over multiple security categories with thousands of supported applications." In addition to displaying information about the protection status of security applications, OPSWAT Security Score also reports the OPSWAT Certification level of each detected product. OPSWAT Certification is a free program through which OPSWAT partners with software vendors to ensure that their applications are compatible with OESIS. Because Security Score is powered by OESIS, OPSWAT recommends using OPSWAT Certified products to ensure the most accurate score is reported.

Using OPSWAT Certified products also helps reduce compatibility issues for both home and corporate users, as well as for system administrators and software vendors. When connecting to a school or corporate network, or when working remotely, OPSWAT Certification ensures compatibility that access isn't unnecessarily denied. System administrators should choose OPSWAT Certified products when selecting a new product for their organization or when recommending one to guests or employees working from home. The benefits of OPSWAT Certification are explained on OPSWAT's website, with videos geared towards both home users and software vendors.
