Extension to Present at 2012 HIMSS mHealth Summit

Nov 15, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Extension, Inc. announced that it will exhibit for the third time at the annual mHealth Summit.

In a release, the Company said that it will showcase Device Messaging, a HIPAA-compliant texting solution for physicians, nurses, and other care team members. The Extension Mobile app enables secure texting between corporate IP phones that nurses use and smartphones that physicians use on and off campus.

Currently, Extension said that its clinical alerting solutions and Device Messaging are being utilized by a number of privately-owned and government-operated acute care hospitals. Within these enterprises, the Extension texting app is being used by a variety of care providers and other staff across multiple units including the Emergency Department, Obstetrics and Gynecology, IT, and more.

Extension representatives attending the mHealth Summit - including members of its executive and product management teams - are interested in meeting with other HIT vendors to identify those needing a middleware to transmit and transfer data from other systems, to create alerts, or to enable secure text messaging and interaction.

According to Todd Plesko, Chief Executive Officer at Extension, "A growing opportunity for us is B2B partnerships as we are the only alerting and communication middleware in healthcare that enables other companies to move data, send alerts on various devices and mediums, and allow users to interact via secure text messaging. For instance, we're working with an EMR vendor to help them send SMS text messages to their patients as part of Stage 2 Meaningful Use and send acknowledgments of lab results back into the EMR. Similarly we have medical device manufacturer partners that need middleware to alert caregivers when an event occurs. If you are a device, application, or database vendor and you want to move data intelligently, create an alert based on an event, and allow people to interact via a smartphone app or a secure text message then you need an intelligent middleware like Extension or you need to build it yourself which is very costly and time consuming. We can enable this advanced functionality with minimal investment." The 2012 mHealth Summit - presented by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) in partnership with the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) and the mHealth Alliance - will take place on December 3-5 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in the Washington, DC area. The theme for the fourth international annual summit is "Connecting the Mobile Health Ecosystem". Extension will exhibit critical lab notifications, electronic order notifications including STAT and CPOE orders, full report notifications, HIPAA-compliant texting, and more.
