NovaSom Implements AccuSom Deliver Program with Apnea Specialists

GLEN BURNIE, Md. --(Business Wire)--

NovaSom, Inc., the leader in home sleep testing and cost-saving solutions for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) management, has signed Oklahoma City-based Apnea Specialists, Inc. as a customer for AccuSom Deliver™.

AccuSom Deliver is a turnkey program for sleep centers offering Out-of-Center Sleep Testing (OCST) that launched in June 2012.

AccuSom Deliver provides a complete OCST logistics solution while the participating sleep center maintains complete clinical control of their patients. The order portal is seamlessly integrated with the AccuSom® testing device, the first and only wireless out-of-center sleep study device cleared by the FDA. Leveraging NovaSom's mHealth partnership with Verizon (News - Alert), data recorded by the device in the patient's home is wirelessly transmitted to the sleep center portal for timely diagnosis.

Apnea Specialists, Inc. (APSP) is a privately held sleep management company that helps physicians develop additional sources of income by establishing their own sleep centers. The firm designs the labs and has developed a network that links participating sleep centers together for centralized scheduling, billing, scoring and diagnostics. The purpose of the APSP network is to create a turnkey system that enables the sleep centers to be placed anywhere in the country and still be successful.

APSP today has eighteen sleep centers in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Colorado with expansion plans into Utah, Nebraska and Nevada.

Ernest Diaz, CEO of APSP, said, "We could have purchased home sleep testing devices, but our detailed analysis showed that the logistical burden associated with such a purchase, not to mention the cost of the devices themselves, would be onerous. And equally important to us is speed- the AccuSom device sends its data wirelessly the moment the test is complete, which means far less elapsed time-to-therapy for positive patients which complements our model."

Leveraging more than ten years' experience with turnkey OCST, the AccuSom Deliver program allows sleep centers to enjoy the scale and operating efficiency of the NovaSom platform. Once a sleep specialist prescribes an OCST through the cloud-based portal, NovaSom ships the device directly to the patient's home. NovaSom's Clinical Team provides proactive, 24/7 clinical support to patients throughout the testing protocol.

Richard Hassett, MD, CEO, NovaSom, said, "APSP has a very compelling model. There are far more doctors in America, primary care and specialists, who have the desire and ability to offer sleep testing services than have the time to build and manage the operation. APSP brings a proven approach to establishing, operating and marketing a hospital-based or freestanding sleep center that straddles in-lab and home testing, to maximize the market opportunity in a given geographic area."

APSP offers its participating sleep centers Marketing and Development among other services, including referrals management, physician recruitment, multi-media marketing/advertising materials, and marketing campaigns that drive awareness and clinically appropriate referrals from healthcare professionals.

NovaSom's sleep testing technology directly measures the parameters recommended by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine to diagnose OSA, and has been proven clinically equivalent to traditional polysomnography in two peer-reviewed publications. About OSA

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) affects 40 million Americans, of which 18 million have moderate to severe disease. Of these, a startling 85% of sufferers are undiagnosed and therefore untreated, generating significant medical expense for patients and the healthcare system. Nearly half of all OSA patients also suffer from one or more serious health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension or heart failure that are either aggravated or caused by OSA. Treating OSA reduces medical expenses, improves patient quality of life and lowers associated health risks.

About NovaSom, Inc.

NovaSom, Inc. is the market leader in Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) home testing, with the AccuSom® Home Sleep Test, the first and only FDA-cleared wireless HST. The NovaSom home sleep testing technology and MediTrack® portal have been shown to provide in-home, clinically equivalent diagnosis of OSA at a significantly reduced cost as compared to in-facility testing for uncomplicated, adult OSA. NovaSom's home sleep tests are currently covered for more than 165 million U.S. lives, through partnerships with major health insurers.

NovaSom also offers comprehensive service programs that are utilized by payers, employers, primary care and sleep specialist physicians nationwide, that enable significant cost savings for OSA management. In an effort to combat the growing OSA epidemic, NovaSom also partners with sleep centers, enabling sleep specialists to offer clinically appropriate patients an alternative, convenient testing option, expanding access to diagnosis and treatment.
