Poquoson's new golf cart regulations are announced

Nov 15, 2012 (Daily Press (Newport News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The city of Poquoson's new golf cart ordinance will become effective Dec. 1 and city officials have released details on the regulations.

Prior to driving golf carts on approved city streets, residents must first contact the Poquoson Police Department at 868-3367 in order to obtain an annual golf cart decal. When the application is submitted, the police department will provide applicable operation regulations, a yearly safety inspection form and a liability insurance form.

After applicants have completed all the forms and requirements, and paid the mandatory $10 fee, the police department will issue the annual golf cart license and required golf cart decal. Only licensed drivers may operate golf carts on city streets and all motor vehicle laws apply.

For information, call 868-3367.

Two contractors merge Two Poquoson businesses have merged and are operating under a new name.

Brauer's Mechanical has joined with Tidewater Power and Electric to form Tidewater Contracting, Craig Brauer said. The business is a class A contractor doing electrical, plumbing and HVAC work for customers from Elizabeth City, N.C., to Richmond.

Tidewater Contracting is currently housed at 311-G Ed Wright Lane in Newport News, though Brauer said the plan is to move back into Poquoson after a building is completed there. The phone number is 868-0730.

The Shop with a Sheriff committee has a goal of raising $9,000 by Dec. 15.

Donations by check can be made payable to Shop with a Sheriff and mailed to the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office Shop with a Sheriff, P.O. Box 99, Yorktown, Va., 23690. All donations are tax deductible. For information, call 890-3679.
