Collins Introduces New Study Apps for Business English Communication

New York, NY, Nov 15, 2012 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- Continuing its expansion into digital publishing, Collins has launched two new Business English language iOS apps for executives, students and other non-native speakers who want to learn how to communicate better in corporate settings around the world.

The first in a series of self-study apps based on the publisher's new English for Business series, Collins Business English Listening for iPad and Collins Grammar & Practice for Business for iPhone are the ideal tools for anyone who needs to use English for business communication. With English increasingly becoming the global language for business, the apps make it simple to master how the language is spoken in the workplace.

Experts estimate that around 80 percent of interactions in English around the world take place between non-native speakers, which means accents and cultural differences can make conversations challenging at times.

"The ability to understand how English is spoken in different countries is a core business skill in an age of globalization," said Ian Badger, author of the "English for Business: Listening" book published by Collins. "These apps, like the books, will help learners feel more confident dealing with real-life situations. By using the latest technology on the iPhone and iPad, our authentic content is delivered to a wider audience that wants easy-to-use content on the go." Collins Business English Listening is the first app to help users build listening skills and understand their business partners speaking in different accents. With authentic recordings of people talking about their work and lives in a variety of accents, users can hear how English is spoken at real companies across the globe.

The English Listening app offers exercises and tests in 20 communication areas such as small talk, telephoning, planning a business trip, cross-cultural negotiation and working in English globally. With the app, users can gauge their understanding of accents in different situations. The app covers a broad variety of different native and non-native accents through 78 minutes of recordings, including Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Scottish, American and Australian.

The Grammar & Practice for Business: Intermediate app gives executives and students all the practice they need to improve their grammar for business communication, conveniently available for iPhone for practice on the go. As the biggest business grammar app available, it offers more than 72 units and 800 activities in practice and test modes - for a total of 2,600 questions. With all examples taken from the COBUILD Corpus, the app offers up-to-date and authentic business English.

The apps are both available in the App Store and will be sold for $5.99 during a promotional period from Nov. 16 to 30. Collins Business English Listening is compatible with iPad iOS 4.2 or later. Collins Grammar & Practice for Business: Intermediate requires iOS 5.0 or later on the iPhone and iPod touch (also runs on iPad at original screen size).

As Collins expands the English for Business app product line, other books will be launched in digital format, including "English for Business: Speaking," "Workplace English" and "Hotel and Hospitality English."
