Go boom, boom, boom

Nov 15, 2012 (Khaleej Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Get your weekly tech bytes here Tune in and relax with one of Samsung's wireless audio docks Ho-hum. As the weather gets chilly -- especially in the evenings and into the wee hours -- what better way to chill than doze off on your comfy bed But here's something that kept me from being lazy, lately -- the Samsung Audio Dock DA-E750. Assuming that y'all know that I'm a music lover -- we're in for some interesting stuff.

FORM Man, it's heavy. At 17.72" x 5.827" x 9.449" and 8.6kg, it's a bit bulky compared to other powerful speakers. But anyway, it's basically a solid quadrilateral piece of glass fibre speaker machine -- which looks like a cute cooking stove from afar.

Okay, so since it's big, it should have quite a number of thingamajigs all over it, so let's start up top with its play, pause, multi-function button and an LCD display. Nothing much up front, except for the fact that this is where the sounds will blast off, with the speakers located here. Looking for the dock Well, it's at the back, along with some connection terminals and other stuff. And not to forget, you can access more functions with its remote control.

FUNCTIONALITY, PERFORMANCE Speaking of the dock, just give it a gentle push to open it so you can slap in a number of -- expectedly -- Samsung devices such as Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Player. Got an Apple gizmo Good news: it's also compatible for docking with an iPod, iPhone and iPad. Naturally, the audio dock works with Samsung's AllShare technology and Apple's AirPlay. Not bad, eh, for the world's first dual docking system.

Aside from these, you've got a USB, micro-USB and Bluetooth, as well as a built-in wireless LAN -- so you can pick whatever mode you want to stream your music in.

To add to the fun, Samsung screwed in a built-in subwoofer, Crystal Amplifier Plus technology and a really geeky vacuum tube amp to make sure everything looks... er, sounds alright. They were right to do that; the music coming out of it is really great. And have fun toggling that little bass button on the remote. Only thing I noticed is that it takes a little longer for it to connect to a Bluetooth device compared to, say, connecting one of my wireless headsets to my phone.

AND SO...

Well, not bad for a heavy one, but its heft -- literally and figuratively -- weighed down its rating. No radio tuner as well. And where is the headphone jack, Samsung There are other audio docks in Samsung's arsenal that are lighter and more compact. Still, this one is worth a look at, especially if you're the type who's lazy moving stuff around the house... and, of course, would be willing to fork out Dh3k for sheer listening pleasure.

Somehow, I can still see the reason why it was built this way, as it still gives quality sound with whatever's inside it.

And yeah... this type of toy is something that can turn you into what I mentioned earlier: lazy and distracted. At least, it's enjoyable in the bargain.
