BRIEF: APD Investigating Death of Infant

Nov 19, 2012 (Albuquerque Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Detectives from the APD Crimes Against Children Unit are investigating the death of a 1-year-old child on the 500 block of Gomez NE.

Police were called to a residence shortly after 5 p.m. because the infant wasn't breathing, APD spokesman Rob Gibbs said in an email. The child was pronounced dead after being taken to University of New Mexico Hospital, Gibbs said in the email.

"Due to the age of the child, APD's Crimes Against Children Unit will assume the investigation," Gibbs said in the email. "Several people who were on scene are being questioned but no one is in custody nor being charged." The family has not had a prior history with the Children Youth and Families Department, said Bob Tafoya, a spokesman for the department. The department is working closely with APD on the case, he said.
