Technology Business Management Council Launches Second Chapter in Industry-Driven TBM Framework

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BELLEVUE, WA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/26/12 -- The Technology Business Management Council (TBM Council™), a non-profit group of more than 500 senior IT leaders dedicated to helping CIOs run IT as a business, today announced the second chapter of its openly available, interactive book. This chapter describes best practices for IT organizations that are aiming to align their IT services to measurable value propositions and optimize their services portfolio. The TBM Book is available online at the TBM Council website or in the iTunes Bookstore, and was written by the TBM Council board members from Fortune 1000 companies such as Cox Enterprises, First American, DirecTV and Goldman Sachs.

"The business model of our IT organization depends on our ability to effectively partner with the business to deliver value," said Carol Zierhoffer, CIO of Xerox and Board Member of the TBM Council. "Historically, our business relied on IT mostly as a service provider; now Xerox IT must partner with our lines of business to deliver the innovation they need for providing industry-leading products and services to our customers. Getting our IT business model right is crucial to our success." The second chapter emphasizes that businesses must build their IT organizations' foundations based on business value, and discusses how to re-position IT to manage the supply and demand for the services delivered by the organization. Specifically, the chapter focuses on several core components of laying the foundation for TBM, including re-building a technology business model, how to define services and assess business value, and the key roles within the organization to effectively manage IT services as a portfolio.

"To date, there has been very little to no collaboration amongst CIOs and other IT leaders focused on defining the professional standards for TBM," said Chris Pick, president of the TBM Council and chief marketing officer at Apptio. "With the TBM Council, bi-annual CIO summits and interactive book chapters, we're filling a tremendous gap in the marketplace by creating an open exchange of knowledge among some of technology's most experienced and innovative minds." Readers have access to the book's multimedia features, including informative videos, infographics, and best practices from leading CIOs in their industries. CIOs and other IT leaders are also able to participate in an interactive benchmarking, called the TBM Index™, which will measure how IT executives improve value by applying business acumen to their decision making. The results of this survey can be used by executives to compare and assess their own IT departments and their effectiveness against their peers.
