BRIEF: Oxnard council ready to broadcast in Spanish

Nov 26, 2012 (Ventura County Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Spanish-language broadcasts of Oxnard City Council meetings are scheduled to start officially at the council meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, city officials said.

Cable TV viewers will be able to watch the meeting while listening to a Spanish interpretation.

Viewers can listen to the voice-over by tuning to the city's government access channel on Time Warner Cable Channel 10 or Verizon FiOS Channel 35 and changing their television's audio settings to activate the secondary audio program function.

The city hopes to measure how many people watch the council meetings, in English or Spanish, by offering an anonymous survey during the program that encourages viewers to text or call a phone number displayed during the broadcast, Oxnard spokeswoman Christina Aerenlund said in a statement.

The interpreters providing the Spanish voice-over for the cable broadcast also will be available at council meetings for Spanish speakers to address council members.
