CalAmp Corp. (News - Alert), a provider of wireless products, services and solutions, recently revealed that Justin Schmid will be the company's new senior vice president of Marketing and Business Development. A veteran of 25 years in high-tech industries, Schmid has held leadership roles in various start-up and later stage private companies.

Schmid will report directly to CalAmp's President and CEO, Michael Burdiek, and will be responsible for corporate marketing, branding, communications and partner relations, as well as overall positioning and global market development.

'Justin is a talented wireless industry marketing executive whose proven skills and in-depth industry experience will be invaluable in advancing CalAmp's strategic growth initiatives. He will play a key role in nurturing and strengthening CalAmp's carrier alliances and further developing our partnerships globally within the M2M ecosystem,' said Burdiek in a statement.

The company is touted as developing and marketing wireless communications solutions that deliver data, voice and video for critical networked communications and other applications. CalAmp's two business segments are wireless data communications, which serves utility, governmental and enterprise customers, and satellite, which focuses on the North American direct broadcast satellite (DBS) market.

'CalAmp has clearly established itself as a leader in the wireless communications space. I am delighted to join this remarkable team and look forward to helping the company achieve the next level of growth by building on our market-leading solutions and expanding our global reach,' Schmid added.

In related company news, CalAmp Corp. recently introduced the LMU-4520, a new environmentally sealed, dual-mode location and messaging device for mining and construction equipment that features satellite and cellular communications as well as a connection to on-board engine control units. The rugged LMU-4520 will enable worldwide monitoring and control of mobile assets in extreme climates and challenging operating conditions.
Initial shipments will begin in November of this year.
