Telstra may launch low-cost ISP

Dec 03, 2012 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Telstra faces opposition by its rivals in the ISP sector to a planned acquisition for some $A60m of small player Adam Internet. If the deal is blocked by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission, the telco may instead launch its own low-cost ISP brand, similar to the strategy of Qantas Airways and its budget carrier Jetstar Airlines. However, both experts and Telstra management believe that approval will be gained. Adam has fewer than 100,000 subscribers.
