BRIEF: Service restored to AT&T mobile users, company unsure cause of widespread blackout

Dec 03, 2012 (Detroit Free Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- AT&T is unsure what caused a widespread mobile phone outage took down wireless phone capabilities in a nine-county swath of Michigan for much of the day today.

The widespread blackout affected AT&T mobile phone users in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Washtenaw, Genesee, Livingston, St. Clair and Lapeer counties, AT&T spokesman Jermaine Spight said.

Service was restored by about 12:30 p.m. to customers who reported issues early this morning, Spight said in an email.

"We are still investigating the root cause of the issue that impacted landline and 3G wireless voice services," he said.

The blackout only affected AT&T phone service and did not affect text, internet or data capabilities.
