BRIEF: AT&T says U-Verse service restored in Chicago area after outage

Dec 05, 2012 (Chicago Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- AT&T said it has restored service to its U-Verse customers in the Chicago area after an outage that lasted just under two hours.

Jim Kimberly, a spokesman for AT&T, said "some customers in the Chicago metro area were affected" by the disruption. The company was unable to provide more specific numbers. WGN-TV reported earlier this afternoon, citing a customer service representative, that the outage was statewide and also affected Indiana and parts of Florida.

AT&T's U-Verse service encompasses television, voice over Internet Protocol and Internet. The outage started around 2 p.m. and service was restored shortly before 4 p.m., Kimberly said. He added that mobile phone service was not affected.

"We are still conducting a root cause analysis" as to why the U-Verse outage took place, Kimberly said in an email. "When an outage occurs, our first priority is to restore service. We restored service by routing traffic around the affected piece of equipment."
