To officially recognize the MOU and commemorate the launch of the newly formed alliance, Daniel Goldstein, director-general for SII, and Karen Bartleson, IEEE-SA president-elect 2013, convened for a signing ceremony at the Tel Aviv headquarters of SII on 14 November 2012.

"The IEEE-SA continues to expand its global footprint for the further promotion and adoption of globally relevant standards and the encouragement of aligned cooperation with other standards organizations around the world," said Konstantinos Karachalios, managing director for IEEE-SA. "Our agreement with SII-a prolific group working to expand standardization in Israel-reinforces our goal to strengthen collaboration and provides a flexible framework to promote shared knowledge."

SII is Israel's official, non-governmental body that focuses on the preparation and publication of Israeli standards. It operates several product and system certification programs that include three marking systems: Standards Mark, Safety Mark, and Green Label.

As the promoter of quality in Israel-and the central organization for certification programs and training services in the country-SII provides international cooperation for the promotion of harmonized standards for similar technologies. Lowering the technical barriers to trade, SII works to facilitate approvals and adoption of standards for the benefit of international visibility and shared knowledge.

"SII's chief concern is providing value and standards education to Israeli industry and the protection and proliferation of quality products, produced here in Israel," said Goldstein. "Our collaboration with IEEE will further expand these activities for the standards we represent and the cross-organizational sharing we aim to achieve."
