The OW2 Open Source Software Community Announces Best Project Awards 2012

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Paris, France (PRWEB) December 08, 2012 OW2, the global community for open source infrastructure software, announces the winners of the OW2 Best Project Awards 2012. Organized for the first time this year, the OW2 Best Project Awards recognize OW2 projects for their outstanding contribution in four categories: innovation, community development, market performance and the Technology Council Special Prize.

The winners of the first ever OW2 Best Project Awards are:    •  Innovation Award: Shelbie (award presented to Peergreen Co-Founder and Software Architect Guillaume Sauthier). OW2 Shelbie provides both an advanced programming model for building commands on top of Apache Felix Gogo and Apache Felix iPOJO and also a JLine based frontend. Shelbie innovates by allowing on-the-fly installation of commands at run-time, thereby enhancing the already modular and dynamlic OSGi platform.

   •  Community Award: EasyBeans (award presented to Peergreen Co-Founder and Software Architect Guillaume Sauthier). EasyBeans is an open source implementation by OW2 of the EJB3 container specification. It is embedded in the Java EE 5 certified OW2 JOnAS application server. This award recognizes outstanding representation of the OW2 spirit which consists in protecting, sharing and re-using the community code.

   •  Market Award: Bonita Open Solution (award presented to BonitaSoft Marketing Director Jeremy Lipp). Bonita Open Solution is an intuitive and powerful solution to build process based applications at optimum cost. BonitaSoft was recognized for the clarity of its strategy and the excellence of its execution which translated into the outstanding growth of its installed base of professional customers;    •  Technology Council Special Prize: ProActive-CLIF-Fractal integration (award presented to ActiveEon CEO Denis Caromel and Bruno Dillenseger, Engineer at Orange). The technology Council wanted to recognize the examplarity of the community and standardisation efforts deployed for the successful integration of these three projects.

“We are extremely proud of our Best Project Awards 2012 winners,” says OW2 CEO Cedric Thomas “Their achievements reflect the growing momentum of the OW2 open source software community,” he adds.

The OW2 Best Project Awards afford OW2 members, project leaders and their teams great recognition within the community as well as many opportunities in terms of visibility. The award ceremony took place at OW2con'12, the annual conference of the OW2 community, on 28 November, at Orange Labs' Innovation Garden, in Paris Issy-les-Moulineaux.

All projects were invited to compete for one of the four awards: Innovation Award, Community Award, Market Award and Technology Council Special Prize. The winners were selected by a jury of project leaders from the technology Council and members of the OW2 Management Office.
