Rep. Pompeo Retains Coveted Spot on House Energy and Commerce Committee, Adds Subcommittee on Communications & Technology(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON, Dec. 11 -- Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Kan. (4th CD), issued the following news release: Fred Upton (R-MI), Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, announced last week the Republican membership of the Energy and Commerce Committee for the 113th Congress. Congressman Pompeo (KS 04), who served on the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee his freshman term in Congress, will retain that coveted assignment for his second term. Chairman Upton announced that Congressman Pompeo has been appointed to three subcommittees. In addition to his continued service on the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade and the Subcommittee on Energy and Power, Congressman Pompeo has been newly appointed to serve on the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology. Chairman Upton offered the following comment about Congressman Pompeo's appointment, "I am very pleased Congressman Pompeo will continue as a valued member of the Energy and Commerce Committee. Mike's hard work, intelligence, and free-market sensibilities are a tremendous asset to the committee as we continue fighting the regulatory gauntlet that threatens jobs and economic growth. Mike was a true leader this past Congress, and I expect more of the same in 2013 and beyond." The Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade has jurisdiction over Interstate and foreign commerce, including all trade matters within the jurisdiction of the full committee; regulation of commercial practices (the Federal Trade Commission), including sports-related matters; consumer affairs and consumer protection, including privacy matters generally; data security; consumer product safety (the Consumer Product Safety Commission); product liability; motor vehicle safety; and regulation of travel, tourism, and time. The Subcommittee on Energy and Power has jurisdiction over national energy policy; fossil energy; renewable energy; nuclear energy; nuclear facilities; the Department of Energy; the Nuclear Regulatory Commission; the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission; synthetic and alternative fuels; energy conservation; energy information; utility issues; interstate energy compacts; energy generation, marketing, reliability, transmission, siting, exploration, production, efficiency, cybersecurity, and ratemaking for all generated power; pipelines; the Clean Air Act and air emissions; all laws, programs, and government activities affecting energy matters, including all aspects of the above-referenced jurisdiction related to the Department of Homeland Security.
