BRIEF: Ex-coach expected to plead guilty in Stark County

CANTON, Dec 18, 2012 (The Akron Beacon Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Stark County authorities expect a former high school basketball coach to plead guilty Wednesday to charges of videotaping nude boys in the school locker room.

Scott D. Studer, 46, who coached the Jackson High freshman team, was arrested last month after investigators searched his Jackson Township home and found nude images on a DVD, a laptop computer and a flash drive.

The assistant criminal division chief of the Stark County Prosecutor's Office, Chryssa Hartnett, told media outlets that Studer's attorney had signaled the plans to plead guilty to an eight-count indictment.

Studer is scheduled to appear in a hearing Wednesday at 9 a.m., at which time he is expected to enter the pleas, in Stark County Common Pleas Judge Frank Forchione's court.

James Haupt, Studer's lawyer, did not immediately return messages seeking comment on the case.

According to Ohio sentencing guidelines, Studer could face a maximum of 64 years in prison if he is convicted of all of the charges.

Forchione has discretion for less time in the court's actual sentencing decision.

Studer remains in custody at the Stark County Jail under terms of a $2 million bond.
