Independent Electricity System Operator Awards ENBALA Contract to Provide Aggregated Load Services to the Province of Ontario

TORONTO, ONTARIO, Dec 20, 2012 (Marketwire via COMTEX) -- ENBALA Power Networks is proud to announce it has been awarded a contract by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) to provide Load Balancing Services to the province of Ontario. Through a competitive RFP process, ENBALA has been awarded a contract in the category of "Aggregated Load Solutions" based on its proven and leading edge technology and services platform.

The IESO balances the supply and demand for electricity in Ontario and then directs its flow across the province's transmission lines. To maintain the real-time balance, the IESO contracts ancillary services to help ensure the reliable operation of the power system; this includes Regulation Service, also known as Grid Balance(R).

"We are excited to become participants in the Ontario market by connecting large electricity users to the grid," said Ron Dizy, President and CEO ENBALA Power Networks. "Starting early 2013 ENBALA will begin to deliver an aggregated network of demand-side storage, growing to four MWs." Ideal candidates to participate in the Grid Balance program include water plants, cold storage facilities, universities and hospitals as well as other industrial, commercial and institutional facilities. The ENBALA Storage Network harnesses participating businesses' demand-side storage that already exists in their processes, to deliver real-time flexibility to the electricity grid.

"Today's announcement represents an important milestone in the evolution of Ontario's power sector," said Paul Murphy, President and CEO of the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). "Now, the IESO will be working with non-traditional resources, including aggregated loads, to provide some of the operational flexibility we need to balance the system. Through companies like ENBALA, Ontario is deriving additional value by leveraging existing infrastructure and using it to provide an important service." ENBALA will provide Grid Balance service with its network of existing clients beginning early 2013 and will continue to identify and qualify ideal Ontario candidates to grow market participation. Successful participants in the ENBALA Storage Network will be financially rewarded for their participation.
