In series of iRobot vids, Vince Wilfork lets Roomba run right over him

Dec 20, 2012 (Boston Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Team the New England Patriots' Vince Wilfork and his family up with a roaming Roomba, and something comical is bound to happen.

That's what the folks at iRobot were banking on when they signed the defensive co-captain and clan to do a series of mini-sitcoms for the Web, pairing the family up with the Bedford company's robotic vacuum cleaner. And the bet appears to be paying off. The first installment of "At Home with the Wilforks" at www.youtube.com/irobot is cleaning up, with thousands of views so far.

"They're just really fun people who love the robots," said Nancy Dussault-Smith, iRobot's vice president of marketing communications.

When she met No. 75 and his wife Bianca at the Super Bowl in Indiana, Dussault-Smith wasn't the only one who was starstruck.

"We were like two kids fascinated by her exciting job," Bianca Wilfork said.

When iRobot arranged for the couple and their children, D'Aundre, 15; Destiny, 9, and David, 3, to tour its facility, Wilfork said, the experience was "almost life-changing." "To be able to see the technology that was being used and the many things created was amazing," she said. "From everyday floor cleaners to use with our military, the possibilities are endless." Can't get enough of the Wilforks or iRobot Stay tuned. Four more episodes will debut over the coming weeks featuring the family with other robots, including the military-grade PackBot and the DJ Roomba, a vacuum cleaner equipped with a boom box.
