Fort Worth Star-Telegram Eats Beat column

Cabo Grande and Mercury Chophouse will open, along with the two large hotel buffets.

Cabo Grande's buffet includes turkey, ham and green bean casserole, plus tacos, tamales and regular Cabo dishes such as ropa vieja and chicken posole and desserts such as white-chocolate bread pudding.

The price: $10.99.

"People who live downtown had nowhere reasonable to go," said Cabo manager Henry Levinski.

When the restaurant opened on Thanksgiving, he said, downtown residents asked, "You're going to be open Christmas, right '" Also on the Christmas menu: margaritas by the pitcher, $10.

Cabo Grande is open only for lunch Christmas Day, other days for lunch and dinner; 115 W. Second St., 817-348-8226, cabogrande.com.

Mercury Chophouse, the only prime steakhouse open for Christmas lunch, is serving its regular dinner menu plus a choice of prime rib, double-cut pork chops or a turkey and ham plate.

Six 10 Grille at the Ashton Hotel is booked for lunch, but will serve breakfast until 9:30 a.m.; 817-332-0100, theashtonhotel.com.

At 4 p.m., Ferre Fort Worth will open and serve a three-course dinner menu featuring a wide choice of roast duck, scallops, a New York strip, short rib, baked chicken or sea bass. Desserts include fried apple ravioli or tiramisu; $45, 215 E. Fourth St., 817-332-0033, ferrerestaurant.com.



In northwest Fort Worth, tried-and-true Vance Godbey's Restaurant will open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and serve its traditional turkey, ham, filet mignon and barbecue buffet; $19.95.

El Asadero in Fort Worth is open all day Christmas. Buttons Restaurant will open at dinner.


The other choice for Christmas: Southlake.

Copeland's of New Orleans and Buca di Beppo both had Christmas Day tables available at midweek, although Copeland's was filling up at night.

The Gaylord Texan in Grapevine and Cool River Cafe in Irving are also open, along with several Dallas restaurants.

In Arlington, a Nizza Pizza will be open Christmas Day at 1430 S. Cooper St. The Hilton and Sheraton hotels will serve holiday menus.

Some Furr's and Luby's locations also will open.
