BRIEF: Allen County agrees on Rousseau Centre for 911 phones
Dec 21, 2012 (The News-Sentinel (Fort Wayne - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
The Allen County Commissioners on Friday agreed to the sixth floor of the former City-County Building, now called the Rousseau Centre, as the best place to put a new 911 call center.
The Fort Wayne-Allen County Consolidated Communications Partnership settled on the location this week, but the commissioners must agree to the move because the county owns the Rousseau Centre, 1 E. Main St.
"Though our original offer was to modify the existing dispatch center in the Rousseau Centre basement, we now believe the possibility of a regionalized communications center would require more space than the basement allows," the commissioners said in a statement.
City and county officials hope to have the new call center operational in 2013. The Rousseau Center, which formerly housed local government offices, is now the joint police headquarters. Most government offices moved to Citizens Square, 200 E. Berry St.
