Strong Demand for Cloud-Based IT Jobs Is Unfilled, Confirms Hound.com

Pasadena, CA, Dec 27, 2012 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- A new report by the IDC on the IT industry, published in Forbes (http://www.forbes.com/sites/joemckendrick/2012/12/21/almost-1-7-million-cloud-related-jobs-went-unfilled-in-2012-estimate/), shows that in spite of unprecedented growth, almost 1.7 million cloud-related IT jobs went unfilled in 2012 due to a lack of trained workers. Strong demand for cloud-trained IT professionals is confirmed by jobs data on Hound.com A new report by the International Data Corporation (IDC) predicted that the number of cloud-based IT jobs could grow 26 percent annually by 2015. In spite of this strong jobs forecast, the IDC also noted that there remains a widening skills gap between the number of job openings and the availability of IT professionals with training in cloud-based computing. With nearly 1.7 million cloud-related jobs going unfilled in 2012, the report found the majority of these jobs went unfilled because of a lack of certified or trained workers. The report was sponsored by Microsoft Corporation, which is promoting cloud-based training and certification for IT professionals.

These industry trends are reflected in jobs data found on Hound.com, a leading job site. As of December 26, the website showed 82,572 openings for IT jobs. Of the postings that required experience in cloud computing, 65% of them had been listed for 30 days or more. This reflects the difficulty faced by hiring managers in finding qualified workers.

With the report predicting that virtually all of future IT jobs will be in the cloud sector, the tech industry must undergo significant changes if it hopes to be able to meet this demand. Job-seekers who are considering work in the IT industry should pursue training or certification in cloud-computing. Current IT professionals need to be retrained in cloud skills to handle the new demands of their industry.

"It is astonishing how quickly the landscape for IT professionals has changed in the last few years," said Harrison Barnes, CEO of Hound.com. "We are seeing modest growth overall in the IT industry, but strong demand for IT workers with cloud-based training. It is absolutely pivotal that companies invest in training both current and new IT workers with the skills to handle cloud technology. In terms of demand for cloud-based IT jobs, the only thing that I can see slowing that down is the lack of skilled workers." About Hound.com Hound.com is a job site based in Pasadena, CA. It was purchased by the Employment Research Institute in 2005, which is owned by A. Harrison Barnes.
