Pervasive Software launches new data metering service for MySQL applications

Dec 28, 2012 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Pervasive Software Inc., a provider of software to manage, integrate and analyze data, in the cloud or on-premises, throughout the entire data lifecycle, has announced Pervasive UseaBiLLity, a cloud-based data metering service for MySQL applications.

By instrumenting MySQL for data metering without requiring any code development, Pervasive UseaBiLLity offers SaaS vendors unprecedented access to data about how an application is being used, the company said.

Depending on the goal of data metering, Pervasive UseaBiLLity can be set up with a simple metering profile for subscriber billing or a more detailed set of profiles for analytics. Because Pervasive UseaBiLLity lets users map database events to application features and then report each instance of actions such as create, insert, update and delete, SaaS vendors can get great insight into which features are being used, by whom, when and how often, the company added.

"Usage-based billing services and provisioning usage analytics input as a service will be an important feature of the next-generation software-driven and service-oriented businesses, who should welcome Pervasive's innovative approach," said David Norfolk, practice leader development and governance at Bloor Research. "We hope this will serve as a model for businesses generally." According to the company, data metering in MySQL applications provides a real opportunity for ISVs seeking to deliver capabilities in a SaaS option. Some of the use cases may include price modeling, infrastructure planning, and application design and support.
