Chamber welcomes 27 businesses in 2012

CLAREMORE, Dec 30, 2012 (Claremore Daily Progress - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- 2012 has been a year of significant growth for the Claremore Chamber of Commerce as 27 new and expanded businesses became registered members of the non-profit organization.

For more than 85 years, the Chamber has provided an opportunity for area businesses to voluntarily advance the city of Claremore. With more than 450 members, the Chamber serves the community by uniting businesses and organizations to promote a better quality of life.

This year, the Chamber celebrated its 70th anniversary since becoming formally recognized as a private non-profit organization.

Redbud Physical Therapist Jamie Gorman said getting to know the community and Claremore has been wonderful.

"It's important to be close to the pulse of the city and what's going on around us," said Gorman. "Becoming a new member has definitely helped promote our business." Autumn Wood Memory Care opened their doors to Alzheimer's and dementia patients last month. The new center is one of only a few of its kind in this part of the state.

"We just joined the Chamber a few weeks ago. Were excited to be on board and to serve the people of Claremore," said Autumn Wood Administrator Mathew Snyder.

Earlier this year, the Chamber launched an event website, goclaremore.org, giving local businesses a tool to submit upcoming public events on an online calendar.

In addition, Chamber services offer members an annual membership directory, networking through businesses, communication through the weekly memo, It's Happening, legislative forums and updates, small business assistance professional development services and more.

Upcoming events include the annual "State of City Address" with Mayor Mickey Perry and City Manager Jim Thomas on Jan. 24 at RSU Centennial Center.

Then on Jan. 26, the Chamber will host its annual banquet and Gridiron. As part of the event, Business of the Year, Business Citizen of the Year, and Entrepreneur of the Year awards will be presented. Nomination forms are available at www.claremore.org. Deadline for entry is Jan. 11.
