Virginia Based MOTHERBORED to Gift Eco Friendly Jewelry at GBK's Celebrity Gift Lounge in Honor of 2013 Golden Globe Awards Nominees and Presenters

Gainesville, VA, Jan 03, 2013 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- Gainesville, Virginia's MOTHERBORED (http://www.motherboredjewelry.com) will have its eco friendly, recycled motherboard pendants, rings and cuff links showcased at The Artisan Group exhibit at GBK's Luxury Gift Lounge in Honor of the 2013 Golden Globes Nominees and Presenters. The company's mini round pendants will also be included in The Artisan Group's coveted swag bags. The Gift Lounge takes place January 11-12, 2013 at an exclusive Beverly Hills, California location.

To create her one-of-a-kind, handcrafted jewelry designs, MOTHERBORED designer/owner Michelle McLaughlin works exclusively with donated computers that would otherwise be destined for the landfill. Using motherboards, micro processors and other components from the computers, she creates colorful, unique upcycled jewelry, including pendants, earrings, rings, bracelets, belt buckles and cuff links, as well as household accessories like the company's popular bottle/wine stoppers. For the Golden Globes, McLaughlin stayed true to her passion for all things electronic but pulled out the stops when it came to color. "Most motherboards are green but there are some beautiful blues, purples and yellows to be found," noted McLaughlin. "The Golden Globes motivated me to create my boldest pieces yet. They are essentially a collage of the many brilliantly colored boards I've come across over the years." The result of McLaughlin's efforts can be seen in the large vibrant rectangle pendant that is the centerpiece of MOTHERBORED's Golden Globes display piece. In a nod to the men, the display also includes a distinctive set of yellow motherboard cuff links.

For the celebrity gift bags, McLaughlin created 100 one-of-a-kind mini round pendants incorporating actual motherboards and micro components off the motherboards. The pendants, which hang on MOTHERBORED branded display cards, come with an 18" chain, and are packaged with the MOTHERBORED business card and then nestled in green organza bags.

"I put many hours into creating these pendants," commented McLaughlin, "but the unique nature of each piece and the interesting design decisions required made it a fulfilling journey." Now that the Golden Globes display piece and pendants are packaged and on their way to Beverly Hills, McLaughlin has turned her attention to preparing for GBK's Luxury Gift Lounge in Honor of the 2013 Academy Awards, which takes place February 22-23 in Los Angeles. For the Academy Awards, MOTHERBORED is showcasing on display six of its rectangle "Circuit Board" pendant necklaces; including a blue MACbook version. The company's multicolored motherboard wine stoppers will be included in celebrity gift bags.

Every MOTHERBORED design, whether a pendant or a pair of cuff links, is the result of several laborious steps. McLaughlin takes pride in her craftsmanship, noting that each piece goes through multiple processes to ensure the board is smooth, clean and polished to perfection. Her signature design mark is the microprocessors, resistors and gears she adds as a design accent. "I spent 15 years in the dental field," laughed McLaughlin, "so I have what I call the 'steady hand of perfection.'" McLaughlin, who has been creating recycled computer jewelry since 2010, finds her inspiration in the individual motherboard she is working with. She says once she has the board cleaned off and ready to cut, it speaks to her. "The individual boards seem to have their own personalities," said McLaughlin. "I recall one that reminded me of a lion's mane; it was ultimately transformed into a beautiful pendant--and another one that once looked like Central Park; it became a belt buckle." In 2013, MOTHERBORED fans can look forward to seeing more of the company's recently trademarked line, Geektorian MOTHERBORED(TM). "This collection consists of Victorian vintage jewelry that I've transform into "Geektorian" loveliness with beautiful motherboards. It's all about bringing together the old and the new," remarked McLaughlin.
