Nokia sells 15.9 million smartphones; 4 million Lumia devices [Cihan News Agency (Turkey)]


(Cihan News Agency (Turkey) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) HELSINKI (CIHAN)- Finnish mobile manufacturer has noted the company has performed better than expected in the fourth quarter of 2012.

It noted its Mobile Phones business unit and Lumia portfolio had delivered better than predicted results.

The company estimated its net sales for Devices and Services for the fourth quarter was approximately EUR 3.9 billion which included a total of 86.3 million devices sold.

The Finnish manufacturer further reported sales of 79.6 million units for mobile phones out of which 9.3 million units were its latest Asha touch devices.

Further, the company reported it had sold 15.9 million smartphones which comprised 4.4 million units of its Lumia devices, 9.3 million units of its Asha smartphones and a further 2.2 million Symbian smartphones.

Nokia's Lumia smartphones run on Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 platform.



"We are pleased that Q4 2012 was a solid quarter where we exceeded expectations and delivered underlying profitability in Devices & Services and record underlying profitability in Nokia Siemens Networks," said Stephen Elop CEO of Nokia.

The company also announced its Nokia Siemens Network had achieved net sales of around EUR 4 billion.


Nokia Siemens Network is the world's fourth largest telecoms equipment manufacturer as of 2011 falling behind Ericsson, Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent.

"We focused on our priorities and as a result we sold a total of 14 million Asha smartphones and Lumia smartphones while managing our costs efficiently, and Nokia Siemens Networks delivered yet another very good quarter," Elop noted.
