BRIEF: YouTube video promotes inaugural Blue Ox Marathon in Bemidji

BEMIDJI, Jan 11, 2013 (The Bemidji Pioneer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A video promoting the inaugural Bemidji Blue Ox Marathon, set for Oct. 12, has been posted online to attract runners to the race.

Mark Peske and his son, Nathan, teamed up to make the video, including footage recorded last fall to coincide with the time of year the Blue Ox races will be held.

The event features a marathon, half marathon, 5K and youth run. The full marathon course circles both Lake Irvine and Lake Bemidji, and features Lake Bemidji State Park.

The marathon recently registered with the Minnesota Secretary of State's office and is in the process of obtaining its nonprofit status.

Several sponsors, including well-known businesses in Bemidji and the region, have agreed verbally to collaborate with the marathon to make it a premier running event for northern Minnesota. Sponsorship details are still being worked out and the committee continues to encourage businesses to sign on as sponsors.

Online registration opened last month. Race registrations have been received from Minnesota, North Dakota and Ohio.
