BRIEF: Elbit Systems selected for US Army UAV supply award

Jan 16, 2013 (Globes - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Elbit Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) has been selected for a US Army award to supply Skylark unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). Elbit Systems' wholly-owned subsidiary Elbit Systems of America LLC was one of five companies to provide a range of small unmanned aircraft systems (SUAS) for $248 million, although there is no definitive purchasing obligation.

Elbit Systems said, "The scope of the award includes providing support and capability upgrades to current systems fielded by the US Army including the RQ-11B Raven and the RQ-20A Puma. In addition, the customer has the option to procure from Elbit Systems of America the Skylark I-LE Block II as an alternative Medium and Long-Range SUAS to meet anticipated future requirements".

"The innovative solutions found in the Skylark I-LE Block II offer more mission flexibility, enabling the Skylark to fly higher without degradation of imagery. These discriminating capabilities are designed to meet the military challenges of today and in the future," said Elbit Systems of America president and CEO Raanan Horowitz.
