Kontron launches SYMKLOUD, the new App-ready data centre platform for hosted service providers; New cloud platform solves the power costs, space constraints, and cluster management challenges of hosted services environments

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Montreal, Canada -- Kontron, a global leader of telecom, network and cloud infrastructure platform solutions, today announced the SYMKLOUD Series of cloud platform solutions, designed from the ground up to transform and simplify how providers of network equipment and cloud services deploy web-based, machine-to-machine (M2M), and mobile applications in cloud infrastructure. The new platform is designed to fill the gap between commodity and cloud servers by minimising energy consumption and OPEX costs and being easy to scale and manage.

As a new entrant into the cloud computing space, Kontron drew inspiration from its extensive carrier grade and network server platform design experience to develop a new platform dedicated to the real-world requirements of next-generation data centers. The Kontron SYMKLOUD platform combines modular integration of switching, load balancing and processing into a low power and compact 2U, 21-inch deep design.

Simplifying 42U rack and cluster configurations, Kontron SYMKLOUD requires 4 to 8 times fewer fibre and copper cables thanks to its integrated switching infrastructure. Its extensive power management adapts power consumption to the actual workload, as SYMKLOUD dynamically powers up or down processors independently for significant energy savings. Its overall modular approach makes SYMKLOUD processor agnostic and capable of running multiple applications across multiple independent low-power, high-performance processors.

Rob Bamforth, principal mobile industry analyst at Quocirca comments: "For Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), the delivery of subscription-based applications is becoming a main focus as it's beginning to affect its end-user reputation. Without the correct infrastructure and server system, these operators will end up delivering unfulfilled tariff promises, making their charges unjustified. These MNOs will need to begin investing in a carrier platform that not only delivers a wide range of bandwidth hungry applications to their end-users, but also allow for cloud platforms that enable M2M and "Internet of all things" communications to be their gateway to efficient data management and scalability." "The idea was to design a server that was more than just a server; a platform that made it incredibly easy to build out cloud-based networks. We successfully engineered a cloud platform that is thoroughly versatile, condensed with rack-level functionalities, and still attractively priced for a cloud computing market," said Benoit Robert, Kontron Executive Director, Product Management, Communications Business Unit. "SYMKLOUD is a bold new concept ready to make new converts among cloud service providers." Be the first to see the live demo of the SYMKLOUD MS2900 Web platform, and other new cloud platforms, at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Hall 5, Booth 5B45, February 25 - 28, 2013.
