According to Michael McCoy, a public relations representative with SunTrust, the closing of the Plaza branch reflects SunTrust adapting to the needs of its clients. He says that this branch closing is the bank's way of best meeting its client's needs.

"SunTrust, like all banking companies, must constantly refine its branch network to meet the changing needs and transaction patterns of clients," McCoy said. "The opening and closing of branches has become a natural part of ensuring that SunTrust is able to maximize its market opportunities and meet the needs of its clients in an efficient and effective manner." McCoy said that employees and customers at the Plaza branch have been informed of the closure and have been instructed on what their options are and where they can still receive service.

Employees currently working at the Plaza branch will not be placed into other branches but McCoy says that SunTrust encourages these branch employees to apply for any open SunTrust positions.

"We are committed to working with our teammates affected by this announcement; they may post of other positions at SunTrust, including positions in nearby branches," McCoy said.

According to McCoy, SunTrust customers should not expect a significant change in service. The bank will still have a Yadkinville branch located at 200 State Street that offers the same services that the Plaza branch offers.

"We remain committed to serving the needs of our clients; they will -- just as they do today -- have access to their accounts through our other branches and ATMs as well as telephone banking in addition to 24-hour delivery channels such as online and mobile banking, which allow them to bank anytime, anywhere," McCoy said.

McCoy said that SunTrust leases the building for the Plaza branch. He said that the bank will work with the building owner to sub-lease the property.

There are currently no additional changes or announcements from SunTrust for the Yadkin County area.

According to SunTrust.com, SunTrust is an Atlanta-based company with over 1,600 retail branches and 2,900 ATMs. The company's branch locations are primarily located in Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

The company reported total assets of $173.2 billion on Sept. 30, 2012.
