VerbalizeIt Wows Crowd with Perfect Pitch, Wins StartupCamp7 at ITEXPO Miami 2013 TMCnet News First-time StartupCamp 'Judges Choice' award goes to ThruView
NORWALK, CT. - February 7, 2013 - Mobile language translation company VerbalizeIt and video-enabled troubleshooting company ThruView took home the top prizes at StartupCamp7: Comms Edition. StartupCamp is a unique forum for early-stage entrepreneurs to pitch their communications offerings to a discriminating audience of industry influencers, media, potential investors and customers. Hosted by Embrase Business Consulting and TMC, StartupCamp7 took place at ITEXPO (News - Alert) Miami on January 31 at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami, Florida.
VerbalizeIt, which provides instant phone and Web-based access to a community of human translators to facilitate global conversations, was announced as the audience favorite once the real-time SMS voting was complete. VerbalizeIt, which helps users traveling in foreign countries connect with human translators from a crowdsourced pool, was conceived based on the founders' own experiences dealing with foreign languages while trying to seek medical help.
For the first time, StartupCamp7 awarded a Judges Choice award, which is chosen independently of the audience selection. The judging panel of Craig Walker, CEO at Firespotter (News - Alert) Labs, Jeff Uphues, vice president of Cbeyond, and Gerry Dehaven, Senior Partner of QAdvisors, selected ThruView. ThruView enables customer service agents at large consumer service providers to establish a video connection, using the customer's mobile device. With a live view into the customer environment, troubleshooting is more intuitive, truck rolls are reduced and customer satisfaction is improved. "With our biggest crowd yet, this group of entrepreneurs engaged the audience with their pitches and enthusiasm," said Larry Lisser (News - Alert), cofounder of StartupCamp. "The Judges Choice Award also added a new dimension to the event. The audience and judges selected two very different winners tells us that we are offering startups the benefit of convincing everyday customers and potential partners, but also to discriminating judges who may see their pitch through a different set of filters."
John Sculley, former CEO at Apple / president of Pepsi, kicked off the event as keynote speaker in a session moderated by serial entrepreneur Gary Pudles (News - Alert), CEO at AnswerNet.
