BRIEF: Verizon to expand 4-G network

Feb 06, 2013 (Ruidoso News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The recent upgrade to Verizon Wireless' 4G network in the Ruidoso area was touted earlier this month by the wireless communications provider as a part of 2012 technology solutions that helped millions more Americans access preventative healthcare and made one of the largest recyclers in the nation more efficient.

"Our technology and networks help to make people stronger by delivering powerful solutions for consumers and businesses," said Andres Irlando, region president for Verizon.

Verizon Wireless invested more than $75 million in New Mexico and El Paso, Texas during 2012 to provide new wireless services, expanding network coverage and capacity for customers. Verizon's network investment in New Mexico and El Paso now totals more than $625 million since 2000.

Verizon first launched its 4G LTE network in metro Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces and El Paso in 2011. As part of its 2012 network investment, the 4G network was expanded to include Alamogordo, Ruidoso and a half dozen other New Mexico communities. By the end of this year, Verizon plans to see its 4G footprint completely cover the areas served today by its 3G network.
